Stone foundations built in the Boston area were constructed with native stone and some imported stone. Materials used were often field stone from the foundation excavation. With New England winters and frost heaving a four ft. footing was required. This gives us our classic Boston four foot foundation base with 3ft of free standing (above grade) stone or brick. Field stone, quarried granite, brick and ledge stone.

Boston's unique conglomerate of accumulate or pudding stones all have one thing in common. Masons and builders relied on period lime mortars or masonry cement when available. Over time the below grade mortars would soften and cause leaks and crumbling.

We only work on stone and brick foundations.  Our company is a third generation New England masonry company. Our family has continuously worked in the masonry field for over sixty years.
